When stores purchase your published apps from the Swell marketplace, you earn revenue from every sale. Track your earnings and receive monthly payouts directly to your bank account from the Earnings section of the partner dashboard.
Each time a store is billed for one of your apps — a monthly subscription or a one-time purchase — an earning is recorded for your partner account. Swell deducts a 15% platform commission from each sale, and the remainder is yours.
Earnings move through three statuses:
- Pending: the app charge has been added to the store's Swell invoice, but the store hasn't paid it yet.
- Payable: the store has paid their invoice. The amount is yours and will be included in your next payout.
- Paid out: the amount has been sent to your bank account as part of a payout.
Apps that use external billing are charged by you directly, outside of Swell, so they don't generate earnings or appear in the Earnings section.
Swell partners with Stripe to send payouts. Go to Earnings in the partner dashboard and select Set up payouts. You'll continue to Stripe to verify your business details and connect a bank account.
Swell never sees or stores your banking information — it is held securely by Stripe. Once your Stripe account is connected, your next payout date appears at the top of the Earnings section.
- Payouts are sent automatically once per month.
- A payout is sent when your payable earnings reach a minimum of $50. Below that, your earnings roll over to the following month.
- Swell doesn't deduct any payout fees — your payout equals your payable earnings at the time it is sent.
Each payout appears in the Payouts tab of the Earnings section, showing the amount, the earnings included, and its status. Once sent, funds typically arrive in your bank account within a few business days, depending on your bank and country.
Development stores are free stores for building and testing client projects. You create them from the partner dashboard, and when a project is ready, you transfer the store to your client.
Go to Stores in the partner dashboard and select New development store. Enter a Store name and select Create store.
The store name sets the store's domain, https://<name>.swell.store, which can't be changed later. A store name must be at least 4 characters long and can't start with a number.
New stores appear on the Stores page with the type Development. To open a store's dashboard, open its menu and select Log in to store. Everyone on your partner account has the same access to your stores.
- The features of the Unlimited plan, with no charge and no expiry.
- A test environment only. Development stores can't take live transactions.
- A fixed plan. To put a store on a paid plan and take it live, transfer it to its owner, who picks the plan. See Transferring store ownership.
- A partner account can have 3 active development stores. Stores with a pending ownership transfer count toward the limit. Deactivated stores and transferred stores don't.
- Each development store can make up to 100,000 API calls and 100,000 function calls per month. A store that goes over is paused until its next billing period, and team members who have Receive updates by email turned on get an email. To keep using the store before then, transfer it to an owner who picks a paid plan.
To free up a slot, the partner account owner can deactivate a development store. Go to Stores, open the store's menu and select Deactivate store. A deactivated store stops working and no longer counts toward your limit. Deactivating a store also cancels its pending ownership transfer.
Deactivated stores are listed under Deactivated stores on the Stores page. To use a store again, select Reactivate. A reactivated store counts toward your limit again, so you need a free slot.
A deactivated store is archived 300 days after it was deactivated, and an archived store can't be reactivated. The partner account owner gets an email 30 days before the store is archived.
Only the partner account owner can deactivate and reactivate stores, and see the Deactivated stores list.
When a client's store is ready, transfer the development store to the client. The client becomes the store's owner and picks a paid plan, and your partner account keeps access to the store.
Go to Stores in the partner dashboard, open the development store's menu and select Transfer ownership. Enter the New owner's email and select Send invite.
Swell emails the invite with a link to accept ownership. Until the client picks a plan, the store shows Pending Transfer on the Stores page, stays on its development plan, and counts toward your development store limit.
- To send the invite again, select Resend transfer invite. Only the most recent link works.
- To withdraw the invite, select Cancel transfer. The link stops working, and the store stays a development store.
Anyone with the invite link can accept ownership, with any Swell account. Send the invite only to your client.
The client follows the link in the email, then logs in or creates a Swell account. They don't have to use the email address the invite was sent to.
Next, the client picks a paid plan and enters a card to finish the transfer. A transferred store doesn't get a free trial.
- The client is the store's owner, and the store is billed on the plan they picked.
- The store gets a live environment for real orders. Its test environment stays available.
- Your partner account stays connected to the store with full permissions. The store shows as External on your Stores page and no longer counts toward your development store limit.
- The owner can change your role and permissions, or disconnect your partner account, in Settings → Partners in their store's dashboard.
The Swell partner directory at www.swell.is/partners helps merchants find partners to work with. Your listing is built from your partner profile, and Swell reviews each listing before it goes live.
Go to Partner page in the partner dashboard to edit your profile.
- Partner name, Email and Website are required.
- Add a Logo icon with a 1:1 ratio, a Cover image of 1600×1200 pixels, a Tagline of up to 40 characters, and a Description.
- Country, Typical budget, Expertise, Tags, Industries and Languages help merchants find you with the directory's search and filters.
- Your published apps are shown on your profile automatically.
To preview your profile before it's listed, select View page on the Partner listing card.
Select Submit profile on the Partner listing card, review the listing criteria, and select Submit for review. Swell's team checks for:
- A complete profile: a description, a clear logo and cover image, and contact details that can be verified.
- Accurate content: a live website, and expertise, tags and industries that match your services, with no placeholder text.
- A name and branding that don't conflict with or duplicate an existing listing, and no inappropriate or misleading content.
- A legitimate business that offers services relevant to merchants.
You get an email at your profile's Email address when the review is done. If your listing is approved, it goes live in the directory. If it isn't, the email lists the reasons. Update your profile and submit it again when you're ready.
- Not listed: your profile isn't in the directory. Listings that weren't approved also show this status.
- Under review: Swell is reviewing your listing. To change your submission, edit your profile and select Submit changes. The new changes replace your earlier submission.
- Listed: your profile is live in the directory.
After editing a live listing, select Publish changes. Changes go live right away, without another review.
To remove your listing from the directory, contact Swell support.
