A rapid response to an unexpected crisis

Save the Children has a bold ambition – to create a world in which all children live, have the chance to learn, and are protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The Brief

In 2020, 94% of schools around America closed due to coronavirus. Save the Children foundation developed initiatives to provide food and educational resources to over 90,000 vulnerable children across rural America’s poorest communities. To meet these goals, they needed to launch a crowdfunding campaign immediately, ensuring that an emergency response could be made.

  • Launch a fully fledged crowdfunding campaign in less than 10 days
  • A platform that enabled them to retain full ownership and control of their data
  • Customized campaign and donation reports delivered on schedule for their finance team

The Solution

Developed and deployed in under two weeks

Swell’s JavaScript library allows for rapid development of shopping carts and checkout flows. The Swell team partnered with Save The Children to design and develop a custom crowdfunding microsite in 10 working days.

Control of their own data and user emails

A blocker for using popular crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo is customer data ownership. This meant they couldn’t send emails or contact their their own donors directly post-campaign.

Customized campaign reports

Crowdfunding platforms provide limited reporting capabilities. Because Swell’s system models and be extended and customized, we could quickly generate customer-specific reports securely for their dashboard.

Ready for the future

In addition to meeting the needs of their emergency response campaign, Save The Children now have a full ecommerce platform to expand how they receive donations and engage with their community.

Swell was extremely responsive, agile and provided innovative solutions even during the onset of the COVID-19 crisis.
